Saudi Arabia announced that it would partially allow the performance of Umrah for those coming from abroad, for the first time since it was suspended due to the repercussions of the Corona virus.
The Saudi News Channel (official) reported that the third phase of the gradual return to performing Umrah began (midnight Saturday, Sunday, Mecca time).
She emphasized that “the performance of Umrah, visitation and prayers for citizens and residents from inside and outside the Kingdom has been permitted.”
She explained that the third phase allows (20 thousand pilgrims and 60 thousand worshipers per day) of the capacity that takes into account the sanitary precautionary measures of the Grand Mosque.
The official satellite channel broadcasted clips of pilgrims on the Two Holy Mosques.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah said, earlier Saturday, that “the third stage of permitting Umrah will gradually start Sunday (Kingdom time) and the first batch of pilgrims will arrive from outside the Kingdom, God willing.”
On September 22, the Ministry of Hajj announced in a statement, a gradual return to performing Umrah that begins with citizens and residents inside the Kingdom on October 4, according to a four-stage plan that takes into account health measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
During the first phase, it was allowed to perform Umrah for citizens and residents from within the Kingdom, at a rate of 30 percent (6 thousand pilgrims per day).
The second phase began on October 18, with the permission to perform Umrah, visit and prayers for citizens and residents from within the Kingdom, at a rate of 75 percent (15,000 pilgrims and 40,000 worshipers per day).
In the third phase, which began on Sunday, November 1 this year, “Umrah, visitation and prayers were allowed for citizens and residents from inside and outside the Kingdom, partially (20 thousand pilgrims, 60 thousand worshipers per day).
As for the fourth stage, during which Umrah, visitation and prayers will be allowed for citizens and residents from inside and outside the Kingdom to be 100%, when the competent authority decides that the risks of the pandemic will be removed.
And the first three stages, the ratio in which it is from the absorptive capacity that takes into account health precautionary measures, while the fourth stage is from the natural capacity of the Grand Mosque.
Last March, Riyadh decided to stop performing Umrah due to the Corona pandemic, and it organized a “very limited” Hajj season, which was limited to residents inside the Kingdom.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Health reported 19 deaths and 402 cases of the virus, in addition to 433 recovered cases.
The ministry added, in a statement, that the death toll from the injured rose to 347,282, of whom 5,402 died, and 333,842 recovered.
