Experts expected the percentage to reach 67%
American experts have predicted that the rate of participation in the 2020 US presidential elections will reach 67%, the highest in a century, according to local media.
The Los Angeles Times, citing Michael MacDonald, an expert at the University of Florida in voting affairs, reported that more than 160 million voters may cast their ballots this year, which equates to 67% of the total number of Americans eligible to vote.
The newspaper added that this percentage represents more than 15% of the participation rate in 2016, and by a large margin it will be the largest in modern US history.
The New York Times also reported that the rate of participation in the elections could reach 67%.
According to American media, the last time the turnout exceeded 67% was in the 1900 elections, when the figure reached 73.2%.
