On Friday, January 15th, the European Union included the Syrian regime’s foreign minister, Faisal al-Miqdad, on the sanctions list, due to his “responsibility for violations against Syrians.”
A press release by the Council of the European Union stated that it had been decided to add Al-Miqdad to the list of persons subject to restrictive European measures regarding Syria, in light of his recent appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The sanctions target companies and employers “who benefit from their links to the regime and the war economy,” according to the statement.
With the inclusion of Al-Miqdad, who assumed the Foreign Ministry last November, succeeding his predecessor Walid al-Muallem, who was punished by Europe, the number of regime officials and its European allies increased to 289 persons and 70 entities.
The sanctions include freezing the financial assets of those punished on the territory of the Union countries, as well as preventing them from traveling to its member states.
Last October, the Union expanded the list of sanctions to include 7 ministers of the Syrian regime.

Our resolve is not exhausted, and we are creeping towards victory and liberation.
Oh God, you have Bashar, Russia and all those who are allied with them and stand important. Oh God, our victory over them is dear and mighty.
