Sources in As-Suwayda revealed that a number of residents in the town of “Quraya” had formed a local military faction, with the aim of protecting the town from attacks by the Lebanese “Hezbollah” militia and its forces in the area.
The “Nida Post” website quoted private sources as saying that the local formation began its tasks two days ago, and worked to install military points and ambushes in agricultural lands around the town.
According to the sources, the new faction aims to prevent narcotic pills and hashish from crossing the town’s lands, with the aim of smuggling them into Jordanian territory, by cells affiliated with the “Hezbollah” militia.
The formation, which enjoys the support of the town’s residents and notables, also seeks to prevent overgrazing of agricultural lands in the town, or attacks on its farmers.
During the past weeks, disputes arose between the people of the village on the one hand, and the Bedouin clans of the village, some of which led to the outbreak of clashes between the two parties, injuring farmers and burning a tractor.
