A group of civil society organizations in As-Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria, issued a statement warning of a serious threat facing the governorate at the present time.
She referred to the number of recent and “dangerous” events that the governorate witnessed during the past days, and demanded “the protection of society, the preservation of civil peace, and the prevention of being drawn into a state of war.”
She said in her statement: “The escalation of events in the province comes as a continuation and as a result of a general context of security chaos, the high frequency of violence, crime rates, the spread of drugs, the chaos of arms and the illegal economy.”
The statement pointed out that the recent incidents in As-Suwayda resulted in “killing, kidnapping, terrorizing families and children, dismembering the province and disrupting public life.”
She warned against the formal presence of the system and the absence of the state’s content, especially the role entrusted to it in implementing the law and protecting citizens.
The statement stressed “the state of fragmentation and division that threatens society due to the reflection of the political polarization between the interfering international forces and the conflicts of influence and interests through the use of the people of the province as fuel in this conflict.”
In addition, the organizations warned against the “continuation of the process of implicating members of society in any alignment outside the national project, and luring them to engage in conflicts.”
She said that it threatens civil and societal peace, deepens the division between its sons, and threatens to threaten civil war.
She warned against the investment of various parties, the deterioration of the economic and living situation, at the expense of the voice of the local community, which has a real interest in living in peace and achieving stability and security.
In the end, these organizations directed their demands to the religious authorities and the active forces in the governorate to assume their responsibilities in overcoming their differences and unifying efforts and positions among them, in order to protect society, preserve civil peace and prevent the people of the governorate from being drawn into a state of war.

وقالت في بيانها: “تصاعد الأحداث في المحافظة يأتي استمرارا ونتيجة لسياق عام من الفلتان الأمني وارتفاع وتيرة العنف ومعدلات الجريمة وانتشار المخدرات وفوضى السلاح والاقتصاد غير المشروع”.
ولفت البيان إلى أن الحوادث الأخيرة في السويداء أسفرت عن “قتل وخطف وترويع الأهالي والأطفال، وتقطيع أوصال المحافظة وتعطيل الحياة العامة”.
وحذرت من الحضور الشكلي للنظام وغياب مضمون الدولة لا سيما الدور المناط بها في تطبيق القانون وحماية المواطنين.
وأكد البيان على “حالة التشظي والانقسام التي تهدد المجتمع بسبب انعكاس الاستقطابات السياسية بين القوى الدولية المتدخلة وصراعات النفوذ والمصالح عبر استخدام أبناء المحافظة كوقود في هذا الصراع”.
إلى ذلك، حذرت المنظمات من “استمرار عملية توريط أبناء المجتمع في أي اصطفاف خارج المشروع الوطني، واستدراجهم للانخراط في الصراعات”.
